It was positively thrilling to run into one of my oldest and dearest childhood friends the other day!

I mean, you can run into almost anybody at Calico!

Every time I see Elke, I’m always completely taken aback by how grown up she looks. She looks grown up because she is, in fact, a grown-up! But my memories date back to the days when she was barely out of diapers.

Too much information?

Perhaps.

Elke grew up in a beautiful country home with her parents, an older brother, an older sister, and a variety of fuzzy cats and dogs.

Elke loved to draw and create art all throughout high school; some of her work has even been on display at the Thunder Bay Art Gallery! She graduated from the University of Guelph in 2009, and then attended the University of Dundee in Scotland.

After finishing at Dundee and working for awhile, Elke returned to Thunder Bay and resumed her longstanding job as a barista at Starbucks. She was so good at that job (I saw her slinging beans many times over the years) but Elke did hope to eventually move onto something else.

The something else:

Sleeping Giant Brewery!

From coffee to beer!

Tap Room Manager in action (I did take this picture from the Sleeping Giant Brewing Co Facebook page):

Way to go Elke!

In her spare time, Elke enjoys drawing, being the coolest fun auntie to her nieces and nephews, and being a dedicated friend and momma to her fuzzy cat-child.

I have so many wonderful memories of a childhood spent with Elke and her family. It makes me very happy to see her living and loving life. Such a beautiful and hard-working human being.
